Preventive testing

Pets can’t say how they’re feeling—it’s usually how they look or act that tells you something is wrong. You play a key role in helping your pet combat illness and stay as healthy as possible.

Awareness of the warning signs and regular checkups, including health screening test such as a physical exam and blood work, are the best ways to ensure that your pet lives a long, healthy and happy life.

Cat & Dog Wellness Blood Tests

These tests are the most common when it comes to preventive pet care. They offer insights into your pet’s overall health, organ function and helping detect early signs of many diseases. A Complete Blood Count (CBC) and blood chemistry panel are the go-tos here, as is also the case with humans too. The CBC checks red and white blood cells and platelets, flagging issues like anemia or current infections. A chemistry panel looks at liver and kidney function, evaluates health, blood sugar, and more.

Heartworm Testing

Heartworm, a serious condition spread by mosquitoes in Ontario, can be deadly for dogs. Annual blood tests for checking for heartworms are crucial, even for pets already on preventive medication. When it comes to Heartworm, it’s all about catching the problem as early as possible for effective treatment.

Viral Testing for Pets

Cats are commonly tested for viruses like FIV and FeLV. These viruses weaken their immune system. Dogs are checked for viruses like Parvovirus and Distemper. These tests help in early detection and therefore quicker treatment, better and faster results, and isolation to prevent spread.

Pet Fecal Tests

These health screening test help find intestinal parasites. These can range from mildly annoying to seriously harmful diseases. Keeping your pet on a regular checkup schedule will help keep your cat and dog (and your family) safe from many unwelcome parasites.

This test is a vital window into your pet’s urinary tract health. It will help diagnose infections, kidney issues, or diabetes. It’s a simple urine test, but it can reveal a lot, like the presence of blood, protein, or glucose.

Thyroid Checks

Thyroid issues are common in pets, with cats many times being prone to hyperthyroidism and dogs to hypothyroidism. Symptoms can vary, but these can include weight changes and fur problems. Health screening blood tests can be used to monitor thyroid hormone levels, and this in turn helps keep these pet conditions in check.
