Traveling with pets can seem daunting, but with the right preparation, you can ease your worries! Begin by contacting the CFIA, the governing body overseeing pet export regulations. They will supply you with the necessary forms and inform you of any relevant deadlines.

Most destinations require that the paperwork is completed within 10 days of your travel date, although this can vary. If you plan to travel with your pet, ensure their vaccinations are current, as delays could hinder your travel plans.

Additionally, many countries mandate that pets have a microchip implanted. Once a microchip is inserted, it effectively “inactivates” the Rabies vaccine previously administered to your pet. This means that revaccination against Rabies becomes essential, followed by a mandatory 30-day waiting period.

Some countries may even request rabies titre tests, which can be expensive and take up to six weeks for results.

For these reasons, it’s crucial to prepare for your trip well in advance.
