2012 Heartworm Season

The earliest newly hatched mosquitoes can transmit heartworm infection is 4 weeks after hatching. For the past two decades in Ontario it was mid April onward.
All our monthly hearworm preventatives have reach back activity of 45 days. Treatment in early June should eliminate infections acquired from mid April.

The weather in mid March was unusually warm and there is a good chance of earlier mosquitoes season. "IF" (and that yet to be determined) the infected mosquitoes were able to survive last winter in Ontario, and pass infestation to a dog, additional preventative dose on May 1st would eliminate such possibility.
